Japanese refiners halt Iran oil imports as waiver expiry looms
By Yuka Obayashi and Florence TanTOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese refineries have put an end on imports of Iranian oil in the wake of purchasing 15.3 million barrels among January and March in front of the expiry of an impermanent waiver on U.S. sanctions, as indicated by industry sources and information on Refinitiv Eikon.
The waiver, which enabled Japan to get some Iranian oil for an additional 180 days, lapses toward the beginning of May. Be that as it may, Japanese refiners need to guarantee enough time for all cargoes officially stacked to touch base in Japan and for installments to be finished.
"We figure it is hard to continue lifting Iranian oil after March," a Fuji Oil representative stated, noticing that banks and insurance agencies need to ensure every one of the exchanges and conveyances are done well before the waivers terminate.
The last Iranian oil freight installed supertanker Kisogawa is relied upon to land at Chiba, Japan, on April 9, the information appeared.
The United States a year ago requested that countries cut all Iranian oil imports when it reimposed endorses on the nation's oil part on Nov. 4 over Tehran's atomic program.
